Melanie J. Majors, APR, Vice President

Ms. Majors brings more than 20 years experience in the communications field including public relations, marketing, newspaper, magazine and television work and client services and promotions.  She has vast experience in strategic planning, media relations, special project development, crisis management and is an excellent writer with experience writing for both internal and external audiences.

 

Since joining Hirst Cordova Public Relations, she has been involved in counseling and developing public relations strategies for clients and project including Forest City Covington, Devon Energy Corporation, Harcourt Assessment Inc,; New Mexico Office of the State Engineer; Camp, Dresser, McKee; CH2MHill and BHP Billiton.

 

Prior to joining Hirst Cordova, Ms. Majors was the Business Development Manager for Beta Corporation International, an environmental management-consulting firm. She has experience with NEPA and has conducted a variety of activities with the public involvement process.  She managed projects for the U.S. Trade and Development Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy Security Office in Albuquerque, the Small Business Administration and numerous other clients.

 

She was a public affairs specialist for Roy F. Weston in conjunction with a joint effort with Jacobs Engineering for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Uranium Mill Tailings Remedial Action Project (UMTRA) in the mid 1990s.  In that capacity, she was responsible for assisting the DOE in the development and implementation of successful public information and public participation community relations program in 14 states and on Tribal Lands in New Mexico, Arizona and Wyoming, complying with all NEPA rules and regulations.  She has also managed public relations for Rick Johnson & Company handling energy, education and financial clients. In addition, she was the public relations manager for the New Mexico State Fair and has worked in various other media positions during the past 20 years. 

 

Ms. Majors is the author of numerous publications including articles published in local, national and international media.

 

Ms. Majors has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico in Journalism and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Communication at the University of New Mexico. 

 

She is a past president of the New Mexico Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, a former president of New Mexico Press Women, a former member of the board of directors of the National Federation of Press Women and continues her association with the New Mexico Broadcasters Association.
